FISHING AT LOON LAKE LODGE RESORT IN NORTHERN MINNESOTA'S VAST WILDERNESS
Excellent fishing can be found on Loon Lake, which is approximately 4
miles long, as well as on many of the surrounding lakes. You will find
trout, northern pike, rock bass or small mouth bass fishing to satisfy
anyone's fishing fever. Loon Lake itself covers 1,025 acres and

good "fish fry". Bait and lake maps are available at our main lodge. Be sure to check our rental rates on pontoon boats, fishing boats, canoes and kayaks.
hiking trails outside of or in the BWCA(W)
There are many hiking and mountain biking trails available in the
Gunflint Trail and BWCAW areas for those who want to get out and explore the wilderness. During your hiking you can enjoy berry picking (in season), enjoy wildlife viewing & photography and bird watching.
The trailhead for Crab Lake Trail is right at Loon Lake Lodge resort. It is an 8 mile trail with an "easy" rating and connects to the Border Route Trail. You of course do not have to hike the whole length of the trail and can turn around and return to Loon Lake Lodge at any point that you wish to do so.
A few of the numerous other nearby hiking trails include the Caribou
Rock trail, the Honeymoon Bluff trail and the Magnetic Rock trail.
For the more adventurous, the Centennial Trail and Kekekabic Hiking
Trail explore the Paulsen Mine and railway built to access the area.
Hiking trails in the area range from very easy to difficult. So, there is sure to be a trail which will fit your needs, abilities and desires . Map of Hiking Trails.
canoeing day trips
Being located on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness allows our guests to take day canoe trips to fish, view wildlife or just to take a relaxing and leisurely paddle on Loon Lake or within the BWCA(W).
A favorite canoe day trip that our guests like to take is to canoe approximately 1.5 miles on Loon Lake and then take a short 40 rod portage (1/8 mile) into Crab Lake. A 3/4 mile paddle on Crab Lake will take you to a trail on which you can take a leisurely hike to Bridal Falls. Though Bridal Falls is not a very high falls it is extremely pretty. The falls split around an outcropping with a smaller falls to the east. The western part of Bridal Falls is very wide and the water cascading over the edge of the falls is somewhat "thin" and resembles a "bridal veil", hence the name Bridal Falls. Take a look at our Activities Photos to see a couple of pictures of Bridal Falls
or watch our video slideshow of Bridal falls below.
Canoe routes in the Gunflint Trail and BWCA(W) area are just too numerous to mention. The fact that people come from all over the world to canoe in our area speaks for itself. The canoeing opportunities that exist just can't be beat. (see canoe rental rates).
relaxing activities at loon lake lodge
A popular and romantic early evening activity for our guests is to rent our pontoon boat (see pontoon rental rates), fill up their cooler and slowly cruise Loon Lake while watching the sunset with the their families and loved ones. Just before and after sunset is also a really great time to reflect on the days' adventures as you sit and relax with your arm around your mate and listen to the calls of the loons.
Relaxing and watching the sun set, star gazing, talking to new friends, catching up on your reading or just letting your worries drift away while sitting on our lakeshore and watching Loon Lake are all things you can find time to do at Loon Lake Lodge. Get away from the "Rat Race" that you're in. Take time to relax.
Fishing, hiking, canoeing or just plain relaxing, you'll will find all these things and more at Loon Lake Lodge on the Gunflint Trail in
northern Minnesota's great northwoods. We suggest that you take advantage of the low priced rentals that we have available to help in making your stay at Loon Lake Lodge resort a vacation or getaway that you will always remember.
